Psst… 9 Things to do in Denver May 2024

May this month be the best yet!

With warmer weather, sun, and plenty of fun on the way – we came up with 9 things to do in Denver this May to help you celebrate the last bit of spring. From fun events, Cinco de Mayo celebrations and Derby parties – we can’t wait to get this month-long party started.

1. DENVER ARTS FESTIVAL

Kicking off our list is the Denver Arts Festival.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, this festival runs Memorial Weekend (May 25-26) in Central Park. This celebration of all things art is the perfect way to kick off your long-weekend celebrations. The Denver Arts Festival is free to attend and features an incredible display of art, live music, vendor booths, food, wine, beer, and so much more. With a special Kids Art Zone, there’s sure to be something for the whole family.

2. MAIFEST

Another great May event is Prost Brewing’s Maifest.

Taking place May 4th at their Northglenn, Highlands Ranch, and LoHi locations; it’s a beer lovers dream. With live music, bier tapping, stein hoisting competitions and more – it’s the perfect way to kick off May.

3. HALFWAY TO HALLOWEEN

@13th Floor Haunted House

Halloween is every day!

Not literally, but it should be! For our fellow Halloween enthusiasts – The 13th Floor Denver is celebrating the season with a Halfway to Halloween extravaganza that’s to die for. Running May 3-4, it’s the perfect way to get a sneak peek of all the frights and delights the 13th Floor has in store. Tickets are on sale now and can be found here.

4. CINCO DE MAYO FESTIVAL

Up next is Denver’s Cinco de Mayo Festival

Running May 4-5 at Civic Center Park, this festival is a great way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo all weekend long. This festival is free to attend and features live and local entertainment on three stages, over 300 arts and crafts exhibitors, Chihuahua races, lowrider car shows, and plenty of delicious food and drinks.

Psst… be sure to catch the Cinco de Mayo Community Parade, on Saturday May 4th at 11 AM. 

5. CINCO DE MAYO EN WESTWOOD

Another great Cinco celebration is Cinco de Mayo en Westwood.

This year’s event takes place on May 4-5 and marks the fourth annual community celebration of the historical significance of the Batalla de Puebla and the Westwood community. Featuring an incredible art show, lowriders, live music, cultural dance performances, lucha libre, local vendors, Mexican food and so much more; this is one event you won’t want to miss.

6. CINCO DE MAYO BLOCK PARTY

Rounding out our list is a Cinco de Mayo block party, courtesy of La Doña, Desert Social, and Adelita’s.

Taking place May 4-5 on SoBo, it’s a great way to enjoy some delish food specials, drink, vibes and so much more. The block party kicks off at 11 and is sure to be a great way to Cinco.

7. DERBY DAY AT THE STATION

Kicking off our list is a proper Derby Party.

Union Station’s Derby at the Station is sure to be one of Denver’s premier locations to catch the two most exciting minutes in sports of the year. You’ll enjoy the big race from their incredible patio which features live music, drink specials, and plenty of Derby Day fun; Union Station is your one-stop-shop for all things Derby.

8. AVANTI

While our next pick needs no introduction, Avanti is throwing their annual Derby Day bash that is a must.

Taking place on May 4th from 12-5 PM– they’ll be serving up mint julep specials, DJ sets, a best dressed competition, bites and much more. Grab your Sunday Best and head to Avanti this Derby Day.

9. THE BIG WONDERFUL

Rounding out our list of Derby Day fun is The Big Wonderful’s 10th Annual Derby Party.

Taking place on May 4th and Belleview Station – this is a derby party like no other. Aside from catching the big race, you’ll enjoy a beerfest, bluegrass and BAZAAR bash that you won’t want to miss. With shopping from 70+ Colorado craft vendors, unlimited sampling from 15+ breweries, cideries, and distilleries, street food and food trucks, and live bluegrass; what’s not to love.
