Places

Psst… The Molly Brown House Museum

The Molly Brown House Museum is one of the coolest places to visit in Denver, especially if you are a Titanic fanatic like I am!

To fill you in, if you don’t already know, Margret Brown (Molly Brown), most commonly known as the “Unsinkable Molly Brown”, was one of 705 survivors of 2,224 passengers aboard during the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912.

She lived right here in Denver Colorado (where I grew up)! She even witnessed the Colorado State Capital building being built from her front room window (now that’s pretty cool).

The house, located at 1340 Pennsylvania St., has so much amazing history. As soon as you walk up the stairs to the front porch, you feel like you’ve just stepped back into 1887, (when the house was built), 128 years ago! It’s like standing inside an old photo and watching it all come to life.

The tour guides are absolutely amazing, they even dress in era costume and they can answer ANY question about Molly or the house (down to what kind of books she and her family enjoyed reading).

Throughout the tour there are places to stop and try on hats, scarves and even period clothing!

Not only is there a complete tour of the house and an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Molly Brown, (no pun intended, but it is a walking tour through the house, and there are stairs), but they even have an event room that you can rent out.

The floor is most commonly rented for receptions, rehearsal dinners and meetings (everyone needs to get out of the office and what a neat place to hold a meeting), they also hold super cool events in the third story of the house, such as Holiday High Teas, Victorian Horrors and the Famous Titanic Dinner… but I won’t spoil that for you!

You can even schedule school and group events. (They are very accommodating).

I could spend an entire day walking through this amazing piece of history, not to mention the gift shop, (that’s a whole different story, I would probably need a complete extra full day just to look at everything in the gift shop), you can find just about anything you could imagine in there. Not only does it have a bunch of cool Victorian style stuff, but you can also purchase many Titanic artifacts, toys, puzzles and more, (seriously, if you’re looking for it, it’s probably in there)!

I have a whole shelf full of souvenirs and I’m FROM Denver, I can visit any time I want AND it’s pretty inexpensive as well.

So, next time you’re looking for something to do while you’re in Denver, I would definitely urge you to go visit the Molly Brown House. I promise you will be astounded.

Have fun!
