Psst… Denver’s Edgy Art Expo, Tattoo Masquerade, Returns this Weekend

Tattoo Masquerade | The Denver Ear

Returning to the Colorado Convention Center, Tattoo Masquerade is Denver’s premiere tattoo convention and art expo, featuring local and national tattoo artists, live performances, fine artists, healing art practitioners and local vendors. I sat down with Megan Sax, co-founder of Tattoo Masquerade, to ask her a few questions about the event and what is new this year.

What is Tattoo Masquerade?

“Tattoo Masquerade is not just about tattoos – it is a celebration of art. Attendees will be immersed in creativity, with live performances on stage, aerial dancers, visual artists and healing art therapies as well as a ton of local vendors. And of course, there will be an amazing selection of tattoo artists from over 80 cities, including many of our very talented local tattoo artists.”

What is new about the event this year?

“We’ve built on last year’s event by expanding the healing arts floor, offering on-site performing all types of massage, body balancing, and many more healing therapies. In addition, we have more artists working and performing their art live, including painters, hula hoop makers, dream catcher artists and much more! We are excited to be hosting Amanda Sage, world class artist and CoSM visionary art instructor, who will be performing live art as well as presenting her beautiful line of clothing.”

Can I bring my kids to Tattoo Masquerade? What kinds of activities will there be for kids to enjoy?

“Yes! Last year, we did not anticipate young attendees. However, many parents arrived with their children and the event did not disappoint! The kids loved the face painter, the aerial performances and the vendors. A favorite for kids last year was two of the non-profits that we hosted – Wild Wings Environment Education, who had beautiful native Colorado birds on-hand, as well as Zoological Discovery Center, who brought a variety of snakes and lizards that could be touched and held. Families can expect once again to enjoy all these activities and more! We decided to make the event more family-friendly by making admission free to all kids 12 and under.”

What are you most proud of?

“In order to give back to the community, and to support causes we believe in, we are hosting five non-profits this year. I’ve already mentioned two – Wild Wings and Zoological Discovery. We also support Wounded Warrior Project and Victory Service Dogs – both organizations give much-needed support to our country’s military veterans. As for my personal passion this year, we will be hosting P.Ink, an organization that helps women reclaim their femininity, power, and to heal from the emotional scars of their experiences through the beautification of their physical scars. Three women will be at Tattoo Masquerade to receive their survivor tattoos by the talented and famous, Friday Jones.

Tattoo Masquerade, presented by Vinyasa Productions and the Denver Tattoo Collective, is happening this weekend, June 2-4, 2017.
